Amethod Public Schools (AMPS) is a mission and values driven organization. Our mission is to provide a rigorous college preparatory education and character development program that will prepare students from underserved communities to succeed in college and beyond. Our day-to-day work is embodied by a set of core values: Students First, Teamwork, Adaptability, Responsibility, Perseverance, and Commitment to Distinction. We are looking for team members who exude these values and a passion for our mission.

POSITION

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our instructional team as a Science Teacher. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality education to our students, fostering a positive learning environment, and collaborating with colleagues to achieve our school’s goals. We recognize that the number one factor impacting student achievement is quality, presence, and effectiveness of every teacher within the classroom. We find it crucial to recruit, develop, support and retain great educators as the key to the success of our students and the network.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Management:

  • Effectively manage student behavior and create a positive learning environment in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Establish clear and consistent classroom procedures and routines to promote positive student behaviors.
  • Resolve student conflicts effectively and promote positive resolution of disagreements.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Develop and implement engaging and effective lesson plans aligned with state standards and the network-adopted subject-specific curriculum.
  • Adapt instruction as needed to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and promote critical thinking.
  • Grade assignments and student work based on rubrics and exemplars, in accordance with school policies.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Assess student progress regularly and provide individualized support and interventions as needed.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Provide individual and small group support to students as needed.
  • Identify and address student academic and social-emotional needs.

Communication:

  • Maintain open and professional communication with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Provide timely and informative feedback to students on their work.
  • Conduct regular parent-teacher calls and conferences to discuss student progress and address both, positive student behavior and potential concerns.
  • Utilize effective communication channels, such as ParentSquare messages, to keep parents and families informed about classroom activities and student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to share information, resources, and best practices.
  • Communicate professionally with administrators, network staff, and other stakeholders.

Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with the school's administrative and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other Science teachers to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees to contribute to the overall success of the school.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Stay current on best practices in education and child development.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Complete necessary administrative tasks such as taking attendance, collecting and distributing homework and materials, enforcing dress code, and maintaining classroom organization.
  • Oversee student safety and well-being during class time, recess, and lunch periods.
  • Enforce school rules and procedures consistently.
  • Be familiar with and follow school emergency procedures, including lockdown, fire drills, and evacuation plans.

Perform other duties, as assigned.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Unwavering commitment to the organization, its mission, and core values.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, resolve conflicts, listen actively, and contribute to a positive school climate and environment.
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information related to records, students, families, and colleagues. Use information solely for assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of individuals involved.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong organization and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with short deadlines, and solve problems effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong work ethic and go-getter attitude.
  • Ability to interpret technical terms, write clear and concise internal and external communications, and communicate information clearly.
  • Knowledge of public education and charter school movement, preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • California teaching credential or ability and willingness to obtain a California teaching permit/credential if not already credentialed.
  • 1+ years of experience working at school sites or experience working with children/youth, preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to build rapport with students.
  • Demonstrated mastery of subject matter.
  • Ability to follow established routines and procedures.
  • Previous experience in charter schools, preferred.

Physical Requirements
