Controller Position
Compensation: $100,000-$130,000 Location: Minneapolis, MN Work Arrangement: Hybrid
About The Job:
Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit for a Controller to join their growing team. Our client is a boutique insurance brokerage that values collaboration, relationships, accessibility, and company culture.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role with ownership of the company's accounting and financial operations. The Controller will be responsible for accurate financial reporting, billing and revenue management, forecasting, and providing leadership with a clear picture of the financial health of the business. This is a great opportunity to work directly with leadership and help build scalable financial processes as the organization continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the company's day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting.
- Manage client billing, carrier and agency billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash flow tracking.
- Track and reconcile commission and fee revenue.
- Develop and maintain accurate revenue forecasts, budgets, and financial projections.
- Provide leadership with dashboards and reporting on revenue, expenses, profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
- Manage monthly and year-end close processes, maintain the general ledger, and ensure accurate account reconciliations.
- Identify financial trends, discrepancies, opportunities, and areas requiring leadership attention.
- Assist leadership with producer revenue tracking, book-of-business reporting, and financial planning.
- Coordinate with outside accounting, tax, banking, payroll, and financial partners as needed.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Improve financial processes and systems and help create scalable financial infrastructure to support continued growth.
Required Skills:
- 3-5+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple areas of a company's financial operations.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate inconsistencies and question the numbers.
- Comfortable working directly with ownership and senior leadership and translating financial information into clear, useful business insights.
- Proactive, accountable, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of the financial function.
- Able to operate effectively in a growing, entrepreneurial organization where responsibilities may evolve.
- Collaborative and comfortable working closely with a highly engaged leadership team.
