We are seeking two dedicated Environmental Utilities Operators-one specializing in water and the other in wastewater. As a crucial member of our Environmental Utilities Division, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the City's water and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient services for our community.

About the Role

The Water/Wastewater Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position supports the delivery of safe drinking water and proper wastewater management in compliance with all applicable regulations.

What You'll Do

• Monitor the wastewater collection system, including surveying and repairing manholes, clearing obstructions, and operating heavy equipment
• Inspect, operate, test, and maintain water and wastewater pumping equipment, pipe systems, and related facilities
• Maintain pressurized irrigation systems, including pumps, wells, valves, and ponds
• Perform required sampling, monitoring, and testing to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Read, install, and repair components of water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Deliver shut-off notices and turn water services off/on as needed
• Perform daily system checks and respond to operational issues
• Collect mapping data for underground utilities
• Assist with snow removal and other assigned duties

Ideal Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One (1) or more years of experience working with municipal water or wastewater systems preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to operate heavy and light equipment and vehicles
• Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems (preferred)
• Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and regulations

Special Qualifications

• Valid Utah Class D Driver's License required
• State of Utah Water System Operator certification (preferred)
• State Wastewater Collections Operator certification (preferred)
• Backflow tester or cross-connection control certification (preferred)
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• Availability for rotating on-call duty (compensated per FLSA and City policy)
