Corporate Paralegal - Remote Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY :
The Corporate Paralegal (CP), reporting to the National Group's SVP and General Counsel, is responsible for analyzing, managing, and advising on legal matters of the organization.
The CP's main responsibility is to provide legal support to Surgery Partners, Inc.'s (Company) National Group SVP and General Counsel in rendering services for the Company's operations and development teams, and in assisting in providing legal support to the Company's various subsidiary entities and markets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Provide assistance in day-to-day legal services to the National Group facilities.
- Under the supervision of the SVP and General Counsel, assist in the review, drafting, and negotiating of contracts for ambulatory surgical centers, surgical hospitals, and physician practices, including, without limitation, service agreements, business associate agreements, commercial leases, joint venture agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and related agreements utilized by the Company's facilities.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Compliance to structure corporate arrangements in order to meet necessary regulatory requirements.
- Under the supervision of the SVP and General Counsel, provide high-quality legal advice to National Group facility leadership, Company management, and other internal sources on issues presented, including issues of corporate and health law.
- Perform legal research as requested by the SVP and General Counsel.
- Manage and assist in auditing the Company's contract management system utilized for the National Group to ensure accuracy and completeness of records and contracts.
- Manage and administer time-sensitive requests for electronic signatures.
- Assist in the development of communications methods to share legal knowledge and workflow processes throughout the National Group and the Company.
- Recommend opportunities to take advantage of new processes to comply with legal and regulatory developments and likely trends.
- Liaison functions :
- Managed Care (user access and set up of entities in the contracts management system).
- National Group facilities :
- Point person for high-level and time-sensitive requests;
- Schedule and lead contracts meetings with facility leadership and / or contracts administrators on weekly, bimonthly, and monthly bases.
- Coordinate issue-specific meetings among National Group facilities, contractors, and SVP and General Counsel.
- Create agendas for Legal team meetings to prioritize and ensure timely attention to outstanding contracts requests and legal and compliance issues.
- Create and maintain user manuals, organizational spreadsheets, and other tracking documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Remote working environment available. May require evening and / or weekend work. Working under stress.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelors Degree.
- At least two to five years of paralegal and / or contract management experience gained through either a major law firm or in-house experience or a combination of both.
- Solid healthcare experience, including hospital / healthcare business operations and contracting; hospital / physician contracting;
business transactions; and healthcare regulatory and legal compliance with a solid understanding of major federal laws, applicable state laws, and related regulations that govern the provision of for-profit healthcare.
Strong leadership and ability to see and handle more than the "legal" issues of a project; strong pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice;
a strategic and innovative thinker who can develop and articulate a clear understanding of the organization's strategy from all perspectives and find creative solutions to complex legal problems.
Experience with compliance-related issues and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and enforce compliance and legal policies and procedures.
Experience with regulations impacting the provision of healthcare services and hospital operations.
- Proven track record of strong negotiation, communication, organizational, and people management skills and the ability to influence and build relationships without direct authority.
- Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with management, staff, physicians, and banking personnel.
- Skill in developing effective divisional policies and procedures.
- Ability to travel less than 10% of the time.
