  • Job Summary

    Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a Facilities Director. This position is responsible for the strategic leadership of the facilities department for the college. This position plans, organizes, manages, and provides administrative direction and oversight for all functions and activities related to the maintenance, cleaning, and repair of buildings and grounds, and the operation of auxiliary services, as well as the establishment and administration of contracts related to the area of assignment. The Facilities Director oversees project management for major construction and remodeling projects for the college, including new constructions and facility renovations.

    Essential Functions

    35% - Provides comprehensive management of all maintenance and operations of SCC campus facilities, including oversight of day-to-day operation of the central plant; evaluates, modifies, and implements work practices for maximum efficiency; manages and supervises the work of employees, contract workers, and vendors responsible for the operation and maintenance of facilities, custodial services, grounds and landscaping, mechanical and electrical equipment, and utilities distribution; develops, initiates, and manages a program for the procurement, maintenance, or replacement of major equipment in the central plant and buildings, along with fixtures, furniture, and small equipment in college buildings; develops and implements programs for preventive maintenance, energy and water conservation, OSHA training for trades and M&O staff members; coordinates facility-related needs with outside vendors providing services housed on the campus; mitigates risks and ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

    20% - Oversees and performs project management for college major construction and remodeling projects; acts as college representative to project teams led by District project management staff and consults with Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRP-MIC) for major construction and remodeling of buildings, structures, and the expansion of utilities infrastructure; budgets, selects consultants and contractors, and then manages and oversees smaller construction, remodeling, renovation, and maintenance projects; serves as liaison with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors; follows the district's policies and procedures including those for capital development and procurement; provides professional and technical recommendations and support during the planning-design-construction process for capital development of new and remodeled buildings, expansion of utilities infrastructure, and parking and lights; serves as the college liaison with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, SRP-MIC representatives, City of Scottsdale representatives, State Fire Marshal, and staff members from the District Support Services Center; ensures compliance with administrative regulations and policies as well as federal, state, and tribal laws.

    15% - Develops and controls a department budget that includes staff, contractors, remodeling projects, and utilities; approves requisitions for supplies, materials, and contractor services; selects 3rd-party maintenance and grounds contractors through a bid process; manages the fulfillment of their contract obligations, including quality control of work.

    15% - Provides tactical, strategic, and long-range planning for major capital projects, remodeling, maintenance and operation, and replacement of equipment; serves as the knowledge expert in area of assignment, overseeing, reviewing, and providing analyses and recommendations regarding function-specific and district-wide issues; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    15% - Supervises and evaluates the work of department managers and other direct reports; plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff; oversees training, career development, and succession planning for the department; develops, interprets, and administers departmental and District policies and procedures; performs related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in construction management, operational management, facilities management, business (any discipline), public administration, finance, analytics, accounting, occupational health or safety sciences, engineering, architecture, or a related field; and six (6) years of progressively responsible facilities experience which includes two (2) years of management and / or supervisory experience.

    Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in construction management, operational management, facilities management, business (any discipline), public administration, finance, analytics, accounting, occupational health or safety sciences, engineering, architecture, or a related field; and a certification from the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (AAPA), or a similar certification; and four (4) years of progressively responsible facilities experience which includes two (2) years of management and / or supervisory experience.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

    Desired Qualifications

    A. Eight years of progressive facility management (FM) experience in a large campus environment, public or private, with trades management, plant management, life safety, business reporting, metric implementation and leadership over core FM practices.

    B. Three years' experience in budget development and budget management with demonstrated ability for fiscal and budget oversight.

    C. Experience and demonstrated ability in managing, planning, and administering short-term, long-term, and strategic plan goals of an organization in facilities management.

    D. Experience in project management for major construction and remodeling projects.

    E. Experience developing and implementing a preventive maintenance program and performance metric with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software program.

    F. Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) and / or Facility Management Administrator (FMA).

    G. Professional building trades certification and / or OSHA certifications.

    H. Experience managing outsourced contracts, outside vendors and contractors.

    Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview / selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • Will be required to travel to other MCCCD locations.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Medium Work : - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
  • Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat. Work may include moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, or gasses). Work may include frequent exposure to loud noises associated with construction or other activities related to the area of assignment. Work may include sitting for extended periods of time and the performance of technical office work requiring prolonged focus and attention to detail.
  • Depending on the area of assignment, travel to various locations at an assigned college or within the district may be required.
  • Some assignments may involve activities that can occur during non-standard work hours, or on an urgent / emergency basis. The ability to work evening hours, weekends, or otherwise non-standard hours is required to perform the essential duties of this position.
  • This position requires a physical presence on campus to best serve the students, department, and college.
