Job description

Blackstone Talent Group, an award-winning technology consulting and talent agency is seeking a Facilities Systems Engineer / Architect to join our Client's team.

Position Summary

The Facilities Systems Engineer / Architect is the technical owner and design authority for critical building technologies, including CCTV and video surveillance, Building Management Systems (BMS), electronic access control, intrusion detection, fire alarm and life-safety systems, and their supporting network connectivity.

The role defines technical requirements, evaluates architectures and products, directs facilities vendors and system integrators, supports complex troubleshooting, and maintains system standards and documentation. It provides Facilities with sufficient technical depth to own these systems while engaging IT only for defined enterprise network, cybersecurity, identity, hosting, and data-protection services.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering and Architecture

· Assess current CCTV, BMS, access control, intrusion, and fire/life-safety systems and supporting infrastructure.

· Develop reference architectures, technical standards, product recommendations, lifecycle roadmaps, and modernization priorities.

· Translate operational, security, safety, privacy, and regulatory requirements into designs, specifications, and acceptance criteria.

· Review construction drawings, risers, schematics, points lists, device schedules, coverage studies, network diagrams, and vendor submittals.

· Design for availability, scalability, maintainability, cybersecurity, interoperability, and safe failure modes.

· Identify obsolete, unsupported, or high-risk systems and recommend remediation or replacement.

Technology Scope

· CCTV and video: cameras, video management systems, recording, storage, monitoring, coverage, retention, and integrations.

· BMS and controls: HVAC controls, sensors, controllers, alarms, dashboards, trends, points, gateways, and building-automation protocols.

· Access control: readers, credentials, door controllers, access panels, locks, request-to-exit devices, contacts, intercoms, and visitor integrations.

· Fire and life safety: panels, detection, notification, monitoring interfaces, inspection records, and integrations, in coordination with licensed professionals.

· Connected facilities systems: elevators, turnstiles, metering, lighting controls, emergency notification, and other operational technology.

· Develop device inventories, logical and physical network diagrams, connectivity requirements, port and protocol matrices, and data-flow documentation.

· Diagnose issues across field devices, controllers, gateways, applications, servers, and network paths before escalating IT-owned components.

· Partner with IT on segmentation, firewall policy, remote access, identity, certificates, logging, vulnerability management, backups, cloud connectivity, and incident response.

· Require vendors to follow approved network, cybersecurity, credential, patching, and remote-support standards.

Vendor and Technical Delivery

· Serve as Facilities' technical authority for vendors, contractors, consultants, system integrators, and service providers.

· Prepare and review scopes, technical specifications, bills of material, proposals, licensing models, warranties, and support requirements.

· Provide design review, installation oversight, commissioning support, functional testing, technical acceptance, and documentation review.

· Lead root-cause analysis for recurring or complex faults and hold vendors accountable for corrective action.

· Maintain approved-product standards, system configurations, asset inventories, diagrams, test records, and operational documentation.

Ownership Boundaries

Facilities owns

· Operational requirements, system architecture, equipment selection, field devices, panels, controls, applications, vendor management, and first-line technical support.

· System documentation, configuration standards, lifecycle recommendations, functional testing, commissioning, and regulatory coordination.

IT supports

· Enterprise network architecture and operation, cybersecurity governance, identity services, and IT-managed hosting, cloud, storage, and backup platforms.

· Review and implementation of network changes based on complete Facilities requirements, diagrams, security information, and test plans.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, building systems, facilities management, construction technology, information technology, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.

· Five or more years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting building automation, physical-security, life-safety, or connected facilities systems.

· Demonstrated experience across several of the following: CCTV/VMS, BMS/BAS, access control, door hardware, fire alarm, low-voltage systems, structured cabling, or operational technology.

· Working knowledge of enterprise networking and cybersecurity as applied to IP-connected building systems.

· Experience reviewing technical drawings and vendor designs and supporting commissioning and acceptance testing.

· Strong technical troubleshooting, documentation, vendor-management, and stakeholder-communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, Certified Facility Manager, or relevant security, controls, fire-protection, or networking certification.

· Experience with BACnet, Modbus, APIs, building gateways, enterprise access-control platforms, and video-management systems.

· Experience supporting multi-site, campus, laboratory, manufacturing, warehouse, or other complex environments.

· Familiarity with operational-technology security frameworks and secure remote vendor access.

Measures of Success

· Facilities resolves more building-system issues without transferring ownership to IT.

· System standards, network requirements, configurations, and documentation remain accurate and supportable.

· Projects pass functional and technical acceptance with fewer defects and incomplete handoffs.

· System reliability, vendor performance, cybersecurity posture, and lifecycle readiness improve over time.
