About the Role

As a Technical Accounting Manager at eBay, you will play a key role in driving the interpretation and implementation of U.S. GAAP accounting standards. You will be responsible for ensuring the Company’s financial reporting reflects the sophisticated transactions inherent in a global online marketplace, investment holdings, and evolving business initiatives. You will bring an agile, innovative, and entrepreneurial mindset that will enable collaborate cross functional collaboration with various stakeholders including finance, controllership, SEC reporting, treasury and business operations!

What You Will Accomplish

Technical Accounting & Governance

  • Lead technical accounting research and provide authoritative guidance on sophisticated GAAP issues.
  • Interpret and advice on emerging accounting standards specifically the impact to the business.
  • Evaluate new business initiatives and commercial arrangements for accounting implications.
  • Support timely and accurate period-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring results follow US GAAP and internal policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with business partners to analyze initiatives such as payment services, cross-border transactions, and platform improvements for accounting impact.
  • Provide training and guidance to accounting and finance teams on technical standards.
  • Lead the documentation of accounting policies and rationale.

Process Improvements & Controls

  • Lead and manage accounting-driven process transformation projects that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance the quality of financial information.
  • Translate accounting requirements into functional and technical design specifications to support system improvements, automation solutions, and end-to-end process improvements.
  • Leverage generative AI and AI agents to modernize technical accounting processes, including accounting research, policy documentation, disclosure drafting, and close-related analysis.
  • Act as a thought leader within Finance on emerging AI capabilities and their application to sophisticated accounting and reporting challenges.

Required

  • Dedication to working Hybrid Model with 3 + days per week in our Austin, TX office
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • 5+ years of public accounting or corporate technical accounting experience.
  • Solid Understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting.
  • Experience leading sophisticated accounting research and producing actionable guidance.
  • Strong technical proficiency including the ability to research and resolve accounting issues and document rationale.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.
  • Strategic problem solver with high attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience in technology, marketplace, or financial services industries.
  • Exposure to multinational operations including foreign currency matters
  • Prior involvement with public company 10-K and 10-Q filings.
  • Proven experience using generative AI tools (e.g., AI-assisted research, automation, documentation, or analytics) in a finance or accounting context.
  • Experience designing or working with AI agents or workflow automation to streamline accounting, reporting, or compliance processes.
  • Strong understanding of AI governance, controls, and risk considerations in regulated or SOX-compliant environments.

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$103,600 - $177,800

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
